The arrival of Loudoun Castle at the London Dock 1877

£25.00
The arrival of Loudoun Castle at the London Dock. Engraving recording the arrival of the Steamship Loudoun Castle at the London Dock after a record breaking maiden voyage carrying tea from Hankow in China. In the foreground Chinese sailors or Lascars are helping to break the cargo. Tea merchants are also shown sampling the tea - which is unlikely to have happened until after the cargo had been properly warehoused. This image was first published in the Illustrated London News, in December 1877.
