This exclusive Fashion City tote bag depicts a design by Craig Yamey which was inspired by the fashion workshops of London's East End.

The Fashion City exhibition uncovers the major contribution of Jewish designers, makers and retailers in transforming London into a vibrant fashion capital.

We asked Craig about his inspiration for this exclusive design: "As a jewish designer with a deep interest in East London history this was a dream job! I have been on several guided walks of Jewish East London, covering the rich history of shopkeepers and garment factories around Whitechapel where I once lived. One of my fondest memories as a child of the 70's was visiting my father who worked in a clothes shop in Golders Green where he would fit customers with suits and jackets.

As a designer of museum shop ranges, I often create designs which need to communicate the visual language of a particular decade or era so the Museum of London has always been a great source for researching historical artefacts where many an afternoon has been spent with sketchbook in hand.

For this exclusive range, I took a hand drawn approach in order to evoke a sense of history and draftsmanship. I share my studio at Cockpit Arts with a weaver, a bag maker, and an embroiderer, so I am surrounded every day by beautiful vintage tools of the craft. Sewing machines, tailoring dummies and old scissors take centre stage of this Fashion City collection as I meticulously sketched each object with pen and ink.

From magnets to coasters, notebooks to mugs, each product in the range required a different configuration of the illustrations, much like piecing together the patterns of clothes. I love how so many items in the range can be used by tailors; a bag for fabrics, a notebook for measurements or an enamel mug for scissors and pins."

A large heavyweight bag big enough to bring to the market when you go and buy all your sewing supplies.
