Nelson's Column and East side of Trafalgar Square from North-East corner. George Davison Reid took this photo from the steps of St Martin's-in-the-Fields church, looking out onto Trafalgar Square. Many street traders operated in the streets around the square. During the late 1920s and early 30s, Trafalgar Square was the site of numerous demonstrations and gatherings. Meetings of the National Unemployed Workers Committee Movement included the Great National Hunger Marches. The Miners' March on 20 November 1927, saw hundreds of miners from South Wales gather in the square. A few years after this photo was taken, South Africa House was established in this northeastern corner.
