Mudlarked Collection
Liz Willis combines silver, silk threads, and found objects, collected mudlarking along the river Thames, in her unique handmade jewellery collection for London Museum Docklands.
Pieces of discarded metal, with signs of age, wear, and tear are hand-stitched to silver forms, blending with or creating a contrast to the colours of rust or patination on the finds. Everyday objects, such as pins and nails -handmade generations ago - are worked to give them a new chapter, raising their status again, through the creation of little pieces of wearable history.
The mudlarked objects used in this collection are covered by the Port of London Authority Creative Foreshore Permit that Liz has been granted (only one of 30 available).
Materials: sterling silver, mudlarked nails, silk thread
Care instructions: If necessary, the silver can be cleaned with a soft silver polishing cloth. The silk can be gently sponged clean with diluted handwash solution.
