Liz Willis uses silver, hand-stitched silk threads and found objects collected from mudlarking along the River Thames in her jewellery designs.
Pieces of discarded metal, with signs of age, wear, and tear are hand-stitched to silver forms, to blend the colours of the rust or patina from the object to the silver, or to add a bright pop of colour to catch attention. Everyday objects, such as pins and nails, that were handmade generations ago are worked to give them a new chapter, raising their status again and making them little pieces of wearable history.
Liz Willis is one of 30 recipients of the Port of London Authority's Creative Mudlark Permit.
