Memento Mori skull print is a hauntingly beautiful dry point etching by Billie Bond, echoing the artist’s ongoing fascination with what lies beneath the surface – both literally and metaphorically. Inspired by a medieval Memento Mori bead discovered in the Thames by Caroline Nunneley, the etching was taken from an image of a sculpture made by Bond.
Bond reimagines the back of this bead as a sculptural form before transforming it again through print, layering techniques and meaning in her exploration of decay, memory, and transformation.
