Sailing barge at Greenmoor Wharf rubbish depot Bankside 20th century

£25.00
Sailing barge moored at Greenmoor Wharf, Bankside. George Davison Reid photographed this skipper aboard his sailing barge while it was moored at Greenmoor Wharf, Bankside. This wharf was the site of Southwark Corporation's rubbish depot. Once this barge was loaded with refuse, it would head downriver to the estuary. The only crew would be the skipper and his mate. Reid photographed the wharf and this skipper a number of times as part of his extensive record of the banks of the Thames during the late 1920s and early 30s.
