Representation of the Election of Members of Parliament for Westminster 1818

£25.00
Representation of the Election of Members of Parliament for Westminster, detail. Hand coloured etching with aquatint. The polling for the two Westminster MPs took place at Covent Garden. Candidates addressed the boisterous crowds from a stand or 'hustings' erected in front of St Paul's Church. A placard in the left foreground shows the current state of the poll. Hunt, trailing a poor fourth, was the radical Henry 'Orator' Hunt, who proposed annual parliaments, universal suffrage, a secret ballot and repeal of the Corn Laws.
