Skaters on the Serpentine. Pen and watercolour drawing over pencil. A crowd of people skate and amuse themselves on the frozen Serpentine, some inevitably falling and sprawling. Some coaches and chariots are parked on the right. Cheesecake House, a celebrated refreshment lodge where syllabub and cheesecake could be had can be seen in the distance. It was pulled down in the late 1830s. The Serpentine was created early in George II's reign by damming the Westbourne.
