Grand Continental Circus at Crystal Palace 20th century

£25.00
This programme for the Grand Continental Circus at Crystal Palace records the artists, acrobats, clowns and equestrians who performed at the circus during its month-long run. The images in the pamphlet have been reproduced 'photomechanically'. This technological development meant that photographic negatives, transferred to plates or cylinders, could be used to make multiple reproductions with minimal human input. Circuses and pantomimes were traditionally associated with Christmas entertainment programmes. The Grand Circus season marked the beginning of a year-long programme of events held at Crystal Palace. These included football fixtures, dog shows and various society shows such as the International Oil Exhibition, the National show of Bees and Honey, and choral festivals.
